The Story Behind the Fold

Before envelopes and stamps, letters were messages and masterpieces—folded with intention, sealed with meaning, and often too beautiful to throw away.

Our inspiration comes from the Victorian puzzle purse—an intricately folded note that revealed more with each layer, often exchanged as tokens of love or friendship. But the story doesn’t stop there. These clever folds can be traced even further back to Japan’s Heian era, where “tato” were used to wrap and carry small treasures—an early form of what we now call letterlocking.
